10 p.m. update
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued flood warnings for our area, after heavy rain is causing local waterways to rise.
The most recent updates from stream gauges in our area:
Young’s Creek at Amity – Moderate flooding ongoing at 11.9 feet, almost two feet above the 10 foot flood level. Cresting this evening in moderate flood stage, expected to drop back to minor flooding overnight.
Sugar Creek near Edinburgh – Minor flooding ongoing at 10.1 feet, just above the 10 foot flood level. Expected to crest Friday morning at 14.56 feet, about half a foot above the moderate flood level of 14 feet.
Driftwood River at Hendricks Ford Bridge near Edinburgh – Minor flooding ongoing at 12.45 feet, about a foot and half above the 11 foot minor flood level. Expected to crest in moderate flooding at 14.7 feet by early Friday morning.
Flatrock River at St. Paul – River crested at just above the 10 foot moderate flood level. Minor flooding ongoing at 7.85 feet, almost two feet above the minor flood level. Should drop back below minor flooding Thursday morning.
Flat Rock River at U.S. 31 in Columbus — Minor flooding is ongoing at 12.78 feet, about a foot and three quarters above the 11 foot minor flood stage. River is expected to crest at just below the moderate flood level by Thursday afternoon.
Clifty Creek at Hartsville – Minor flooding ongoing at 9.42 feet, less than half a foot above the minor flood stage. River is expected to rise to 12.86 feet, just below the moderate flood level by Thursday morning.
Clifty Creek at Columbus – Minor flooding ongoing at 17.91 feet, almost a foot above the minor flood stage.
East Fork White River at Columbus – River is rising at 8.45 feet, about half a foot below the 9 foot minor flood level. Expected to rise to minor flooding by early Thursday morning and to crest early Friday morning below the moderate flood level.
East Fork White River at Seymour – Minor flooding ongoing. River is at 16.10 feet, which is less than a foot below the moderate flood stage of 17 feet. The river is expected to rise to moderate flooding by Thursday morning and to crest at 18.2 feet by Friday afternoon, just over a foot above the moderate flood stage.
Big Blue River at Shelbyville – Minor flooding ongoing at 14.3 feet, which is above the 13 foot minor flood stage. Expected to crest at 14.3 feet overnight.
Bartholomew County emergency officials say that several roads are closed now including:
- South Gladstone Avenue Curves
- County Road 475W between Carr Hill and 250S
- Rockyford – between Longshore and Marr Rd.
- County Road S 600E/E 850S – 600E Closed
- County Road 400N – Tinkey Bridge
- County Road 800S – between Azalia and SR11
- W Baker Hollow Rd. closed at 700W
There is also high water on
- Central/Broadmoor
- County Road 250S – between 400W and 475W
- County Road 400W – between 200S and 250S
- Water is moving into Candlelight Village
- County Road 300S – between 275W and 400W
The Columbus Parks and Recreation Departments says that several sections of the People Trails are closed as well as parts of McCullough’s Run Park, Mill Race Park and Noblitt Park
Emergency officials urge you not to drive onto flooded roadways. They say most flood deaths occur in vehicles. They say turn around and don’t drown.
