Guard tests new capabilities at Camp Atterbury, Muscatatuck

Nearly 6,000 Indiana National Guard troops have been taking part in a large scale training exercise at Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center.

According to the Indiana National Guard, the troops are participating in a Combat Readiness Exercise or CRX, to validate the guard’s ability to rapidly deploy, integrate with joint and international partners, and fight in complex, large-scale combat operations.

The Guard says that the 76th Mobile Brigade Combat Team is spearheading the Army’s modernization efforts transitioning into a unit tailored for multi-domain operations. The Guard is integrating modern assets such as Infantry Squad Vehicles, Unmanned Aerial Systems and next-generation communication networks.

CRX will feature integration with partners from Slovakia, Estonia, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine.

“The CRX exercise showcases the rapid modernization of the Indiana National Guard and our transformation to a highly agile, lethal force prepared for large scale combat operations,” said Maj. Gen. Larry Muennich, Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard.
