Informational meeting tonight for cardboard boat fundraiser

The United Way of Bartholomew County will be holding an organizational meeting this evening for captains interested in skippering a cardboard boat in the upcoming Ya Gotta Regatta fundraising event.

According to the United Way, the regatta will be part of the inaugural Columbus Riverfest event coming up July 31st at Mill Race Park.

The Regatta is being presented by Cummins. Teams will construct boats made entirely of cardboard and compete for a variety of awards. That will include a People’s Choice Award where you can cast votes by donating dollars. Proceeds from the event will support efforts to reduce poverty and homelessness across the community.

Registered teams will receive a cardboard kit to help recruit teammates and to begin designing and building their boats.

This evening’s organizing meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at the United Way Firehouse. That is at 1304 Hutchins Avenue in Columbus. Participants will be able to learn more about the event.

Teams and sponsors can register online and you can find more information here: https://uwbarthco.goodworldnow.com/p/riverfest
