Johnson County sheriff compiling livestock registry

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department is encouraging residents to register their livestock.

According to the department, deputies are compiling a livestock map for the county. Residents with livestock are being asked to file information including the number and types of livestock they own and to provide contact information. The voluntary program would help return the animals to their proper owners when they escape.

The sheriff’s department says that there are multiple incidents every year where escaped livestock end up on county roads. The hope is that the information would help keep the animals safe, return them to their owner, and prevent accidents.
