Life jacket donation event today; Giveaways set for Monday

A local group’s efforts to get life jackets into the hands of families will be having a donation event today at the Columbus Lowe’s store.

Lemonade Bros are the organizers of the Jacob’s Life Jacket project. According to the food truck business, a recent near death drowning incident has led to the project to seek lifejacket donations and as of late May more than 150 had been donated so far.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department water rescue team will be in the Lowe’s parking lot from 2 to 4 p.m. today with their rescue boat to accept the donations.

There will be a lifejacket distribution event on Monday at Donner Aquatic Center. Up to two life jackets will be available to each family on a first come first served basis while supplies last. A parent or guardian will need to be present and a liability waiver will need to be signed. There will also be help available for life jacket sizing along with tips and resources on water safety.

The life jacket giveaways will start at Donner at 5 p.m. Monday afternoon.
