Local communities to see share of $100 million in road funding

INDOT is announcing millions of dollars in local road funding being awarded through the state Community Crossings Grant program.

Yesterday, state officials announced $100 million in funding to 191 Indiana communities.

Local grants include:

• $1 million each to Columbus, Greenwood, Shelby County and Jennings County.
• $984,700 to North Vernon.
• $973,356 to Jackson County.
• $491,348.23 to Decatur County.
• $238,948.84 to Hope.
• $28,272 to Elizabethtown

The goal of the program is to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually to local communities.

Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.

Bartholomew County Commissioners expressed their frustration earlier in the week that the county’s grant application had been denied.
