Mill Race Park to be site for new United Way summer event

The United Way of Bartholomew County is unveiling plans for a new downtown Columbus event including a fundraising cardboard canoe regatta at Mill Race Park.

At the United Way’s annual meeting on Wednesday, the agency announced the inaugural Columbus Riverfest event that will be held from 11 to 4 on July 31st at the park. Proceeds will go to help the campaign to reduce poverty and end homelessness in Bartholomew County.

The event will include food trucks and family friendly activities, as well as the “Ya Gotta Regatta” challenge. Teams will design and build boats out of cardboard and then compete for prizes. That will include People’s Choice challenge, where spectators and supporters can cast votes by donating dollars to the team.
