Nashville police investigating fake shooting report

A reported shooting Saturday in Nashville turned out to be a fake report.

According to the Nashville Police Department were called to a reported shooting in the 200 block of West Main Street. Police found no evidence of an incident and after an investigation including canvassing the area and speaking with nearby residents, they determined that no shooting had happened.

Police say that the incident is now being investigated as a potential hoax or an attempted swatting. A swatting attack is a fake emergency situation report to authorities that is meant to provoke a heavy police response against an innocent person.

The investigation is ongoing and police say they have no further information at this time.
