Nashville police warn of counterfeit bills spread

Nashville police are warning about counterfeit $100 bills that are circulating in the area.

According to the Nashville Police Department, the counterfeits have all been older style bills that have been washed and reprinted, allowing them to pass pen tests that identify fake bills. They say that all $100 bills printed since 1990 should contain a vertical security thread that reads “USA 100.” The portrait oval also should contain microprinting that says “The United States of America.”

They suggest that you use extra caution if you take in large bills and if you believe you have received a counterfeit, you should call authorities.
