North Vernon man facing drug charges after taillight stop

A man has been arrested in North Vernon after a traffic stop for a broken taillight uncovered methamphetamine.
The North Vernon Police Department announced the arrest on Friday, saying that an officer noticed a vehicle with a malfunctioning taillight commit a traffic violation on Poplar Steet on Feb. 13th. The driver, Jason Perry, was issued a written warning for the equipment violation and granted officers consent to search his vehicle, police say.
Officers discovered a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline material that tested positive as methamphetamine. Perry was taken into custody on a preliminary felony charge for possessing the drugs.
The Jennings County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
