North Vernon Police Department Recognizes Sergeant for Exceptional Actions During Medical Emergency

The North Vernon Police Department is recognizing Sergeant Austin Grunden for his exceptional actions during a medical emergency. On Monday evening, Sergeant Grunden was dispatched to the area of North Elm Street after Jennings County Dispatch received a report of an unconscious driver inside a vehicle. An off duty Jackson County EMS member was already on the scene and believed the individual to be suffering from an overdose. The sergeant arrived on the scene and located the female driver slumped over inside a running vehicle. Sergeant Grunden administered Narcan and ensured the vehicle was turned off. He stayed with the driver until Jennings County EMS arrived and took the woman to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for further treatment. The case has been forwarded to the Jennings County Prosecutors Office for Review.
