One Dies in Multi-Car Wreck in Jackson County
On Saturday evening (May 30th) Officers with Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Seymour Police , Indiana State police and multiple other agencies and services responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries near the 51-mile marker
southbound on Interstate 65.
Upon arrival, first responders located four vehicles involved in the collision. During the initial investigation, it was determined that one of the occupants had sustained fatal injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a 12-year-old male from New Albany, Indiana, who was a rear-seat passenger in a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene by Jackson County Deputy Coroner Todd Brumfield.The surviving occupants of the vehicle were airlifted to area hospitals for further treatment with minor injuries.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 65 were closed for an extended period while emergency personnel and law enforcement worked to provide medical care, investigate the crash, and clear the scene.
This crash remains under investigation. No additional details will be released at this time
