Police: Man injured in accidental shooting at gas station

A man was injured in an accidental shooting at a Columbus gas station Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers were called to the store in the 2100 block of North National Road at about 1:47 p.m. yesterday, where they found a 61-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. Officers applied a tourniquet and the victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

He is believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say that their investigation indicates that two men were examining a handgun and when the owner of the weapon went to put it in his holster, the gun accidentally fired, striking the victim.

The gun’s owner is cooperating in the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
