Salvation Army seeks donations to make up red kettle shortfall

The Bartholomew County branch of the Salvation Army is looking for more help for those in need. That comes after this year’s red kettle campaign fell short of it goal.

Captain Amy Tompkins said that the campaign raised $198 thousand dollars of its $245 thousand dollar goal in December. The non profit group is now asking the public for more help keeping its programs and services available this year.

Tompkins said that the Salvation Army locally serves more than 1,300 families each month. She said each year the needs of the community grow and “Your generosity allows us to continue serving the people of our great Columbus community.”

Donations support the The Salvation Army food pantry, utility and rent assistance programs, youth camps, and low-income seniors Booth Manor, which provides housing and enrichment.

Tompkins is hoping to raise an additional $50,000 by the end of February to fully fund programs and services planned for this year.
