Seatbelt violation leads to drug possession arrest

An incident where a driver was found not wearing a seatbelt led to the arrest of a passenger on drug-related charges over the weekend.

According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Dylan Prather was working near River Road and County Road East 550N on Saturday when he noticed the seatbelt violation. The vehicle was pulled over and Prather’s police dog Frizko alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.

During a search, a passenger, 45-year-old Jeremy Cox of Shelbyville was found to be carrying 30 grams of hidden methamphetamine.

He was arrested on preliminary charges for possessing the meth, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
