Seymour moving ahead with $3.9 million pool renovations

Seymour is moving forward with a $3.9 million project to improve the Shields Park Pool.

The Seymour Parks Board approved the construction contract this week with Taber Owens Construction Group.

Seymour Mayor Matt Nicholson explains the work will be scheduled over two phases over the next two years, working around the normal pool schedule.

Nicholson outlines the work happening in the phases:

Phase one is expected to begin this month.

In addition to mechanical work, the first phase will include painting the pool floor, and adding new starting blocks, diving boards, short stands, ladders, and guard chairs.

The second phase will begin in August and will include a new children’s activity pool and concessions area, a new party rental space, building a new mechanical building with three restrooms, and removing and replacing the water slide.

Construction on the current pool began in the fall of 1990 and opened 35 years ago in the summer of 1991. No major work has been done on the pool since then.
