Signups underway for new Bartholomew emergency alert system
Bartholomew County officials are rolling out a new service for you to receive weather alerts or emergency notifications on your phone.
According to Bartholomew County Emergency Management, the county has launched the new alert system called CodeRED and it will replace Everbridge, which the county has been using for alerts for about 13 years. Everbridge will be deactivated by the end of August.
The system will be used to notify residents about severe weather warnings, public safety incidents, evacuations, and other time-sensitive emergency information affecting Bartholomew County .To receive notifications through CodeRED, you will need to register for the new service.
For a time the county will be using both Code Red and Everbridge simultaneously, until the old system is phased out. Subscribers to Everbridge will receive a notification that the system is ending 30 days before the end of the contract.
The new system was chosen after continuing problems with the Everbridge system, such as alerts being sent in the wrong format, alerts not being sent at all, multiple alerts going out for the same emergency situation and calls going out with no messages.
Emergency management says that a committee evaluated options and chose CodeRed from Crisis24.
