Small tornado hit north side of Columbus Sunday night

The National Weather Service is confirming that a small tornado touched down on the northside of Columbus during Sunday night’s storms.

According to the agency, an EF0 touched down west of Columbus Municipal Airport and east of U.S. 31 at 8:12 p.m. Sunday night. The tornado then moved northeast into the woods and a cornfield. Trees were damaged just northwest of the intersection of County Roads 450N and 110W including several large trees uprooted and snapped. The tornado lifted off after crossing County Road 110W at 8:17 p.m.

Surveyors say that the tornado had peak wind speeds of 85 mph and was on the ground for about half a mile. At its maximum it was about 85 yards wide.

No one was injured during the twister.
