State police investigating hoax calls targeting lawmakers

Indiana State Police troopers are investigating swatting incidents targeting members of the state legislature.

A swatting attack is a fake emergency situation report to authorities that is meant to provoke a heavy police response against an innocent person. Troopers say that the report could be via phone call, email or other forms of communication.

Troopers warn that not only is the tactic dangerous but it is also illegal. They say they are working with local, county and federal law enforcement partners to identify those responsible for these reckless, careless and illegal activities. The goal is to prosecute those taking part to the fullest extent of the law.

State police say that if you have any information on these calls, you can contact state police by email here:  [email protected]
