Three accused of plan to smuggle drugs into jail

Three people have been arrested in what authorities say was a scheme to smuggle contraband into the Decatur County Jail.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department announced this week that two inmates made a plan that would involve a detention deputy smuggling the contraband inside. The deputy would be paid through an cash app. But the deputy reported the plan as soon as it was started.

Authorities say that the inmates made contact with 18-year-old David Shrout of Osgood to smuggle le the drugs inside. The deputy was then set to meet with Shrout to bring the drugs back to the facility. But when Shrout arrived for the meetup on December 18th he was met with deputies and Greensburg police officers and taken into custody. Police say that he was carrying the materials outlined in the plan.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of trafficking with an inmate, dealing in marijuana and possession of marijuana.

Inmates 29-year-old Brandon J. Gay of Greensburg and Robert B. Phillips of Milan are now facing additional charges of trafficking with an inmate with conspiracy and attempted trafficking with an inmate.
