Update: Body of missing Seymour man recovered from East Fork White River
A search for a missing man on East Fork White River in Jackson County has ended in tragedy.
According to Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, the body of 55 year old Bradley Deaton of Seymour was recovered at about 2:22 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Deaton was a passenger in an airboat trying to rescue victims in a submerged vehicle Friday morning on State Road 258 near Jackson County Road 400E when a mechanical problem caused the boat to be pushed into a bridge where it overturned.
The boat’s operator was able to get to safety but Deaton was last seen in the river downstream from where the boat capsized.
Neither were wearing life jackets, officers say.
A large scale search with rescue workers from several agencies took place over three days before his body was recovered. Rescue workers said that the swift current and heavy debris hampered their efforts to find Deaton.
