Columbus adds two new firefighters

The Columbus Fire Department is welcoming two new firefighters sworn in this week by Mayor Mary Ferdon.

35-year-old James Hopkins is a Jackson County resident and Volunteer Firefighter with the Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department. Hopkins is also a part time employee with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services.

25-year-old Nick Lynn, is a Johnson County resident.

Hopkins and Lynn will now go through a Columbus Fire Department orientation and training program before receiving their station and shift assignments.

The addition of the two new firefighters brings the department up to 93 firefighters, two short of full staffing.
