Jackson County systems hit by cyber attack

Jackson County is working through a cybersecurity incident that affected portions of the county computer network.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, there is no indication that any hardware, data, or taxpayer funds were lost or compromised. Officials continue working with cybersecurity professionals to ensure network stability and maintain normal operations.

The sheriff’s department says that as soon as the issue was noticed, county leadership immediately began coordinating with state and federal partners to ensure systems remain secure and operational. Jackson County Commissioner Drew Storey and representatives from the sheriff’s department have been working closely with the FBI, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies to evaluate the incident and confirm system integrity.

According to officials, Jackson County services continue to operate. However some processes may be adjusted while additional safeguards are being implemented. Officials say that they appreciate the patience and support of the public as this work continues.
