Propeller makerspace transitions to standalone non-profit group

Propeller, the maker space at the Columbus Municipal Airport, is now a standalone non profit group.

According to Tracy Munn, Propeller’s former training coordinator, explained that the facility now has the 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation with a member-led board of directors and he now serves as executive director.

Propeller was founded in 2021 as an initiative of the Columbus Area Chamber Foundation to provide hands-on learning, foster creativity, and support entrepreneurs. Public and private partnerships have led to a more than $1.27 million investment in equipment, facility upgrades, and operations.

The facility was built in a 9,000 square foot former Cummins engine test building at the Airpark and offers training in woodworking, metalworking, digital fabrication, and the arts, and serves as a gathering space for creativity and collaboration.

Memberships start at $50 per month, with access to tools, equipment, and hands-on training.

Munn says that Propeller’s leadership now is focused on building a sustainable future.
