Severe weather possible this afternoon and overnight

Emergency officials are warning that we are under a risk of severe weather this afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, much of our area is under a enhanced risk of severe weather with the biggest danger being strong winds with gusts of 60 to 80 mph. There is also a low chance of isolated tornadoes, small hail and heavy rain with localized flooding.

The bad weather is expected in two waves, with the first from 1 p.m. this afternoon through 7 p.m. tonight. The second wave will be from 11 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Parts of Bartholomew, Brown and all of Johnson, Shelby and Decatur counties are under the enhanced risk, the third of the five risk levels tracked by the weather service. The rest of the area is under the lower slight risk level, including southern Bartholomew and Brown counties, and all of Jackson and Jennings counties.
