Carnegie to make $10k donation to Jackson County library
The Jackson County Public Library branch in Seymour will be receiving a $10,000 grant in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
According to the library staff, it will receive the gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York as part of the Carnegie Libraries 250 initiative, announced last week.
Between 1886 and 1917, Andrew Carnegie funded the construction of nearly 1,700 libraries across the country, with nearly 1,300 still in operation in their communities and 750 still using their original buildings.
The gift recipients can use the funds however they wish to further their mission, and benefit their community. The checks from the $20 million grants are expected in January.
