Centra donates $48k for local hunger relief

Centra Credit Union’s foundation is donating $100,000 to help those who are hungry in the communities it serves.

According to the Columbus-based credit union, the donations are going to local food banks and are meant to support those struggling with food insecurity. While those in need are still waiting to feel the reactivation of SNAP benefits, local food banks are likely to face increasing demands, according to the credit union.

Centra President and CEO Rick Silvers said that “By distributing these donations equitably across food banks throughout our footprint, we hope to help ease some of the burden through current hardships and as the holiday season approaches.”

Throughout our area, Bartholomew County is receiving $25,000 to Love Chapel and $5,000 to Community Center of Hope.

$7,000 is being donated to Anchor House in Jackson County and $5,000 to Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Jennings County.

$2,000 will go to Mother’s Cupboard in Brown County, to to Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County and to the Decatur County Agape Center.
