Chamber launches Think Local campaign today

The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce will be kicking off it’s Think Local campaign encouraging residents to shop locally with an event downtown today.

The Think Local campaign is meant to raise awareness of the importance of small retailers and other businesses, especially during the holidays.

Cindy Frey, president of the chamber, explains:

According to the National Retail Federation, small retailers earn 20 to 40 percent of their annual revenue during November and December. The chamber is encouraging residents to explore downtown Columbus and other shopping districts, to take advantage of special promotions, and to share their finds on social media using the hashtag #ThinkLocalColumbus.

Events today will start at 10 a.m. at the Columbus Area Visitors Center on Franklin Street with a proclamation by the mayor followed by a tour of some downtown merchants.

The campaign will also include activities surrounding the national Shop Small Saturday on November 29,

Due to an error, the kickoff event was originally incorrectly reported as happening Wednesday.
