Coalition raises $300k to help Love Chapel to provide food

Local businesses, non profits and government are going to provide $300,000 in funding to Love Chapel to help fight hunger in Columbus.

According to the city of Columbus, Cummins, Centra Credit Union, Toyota Material Handling North America and Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County are joining with the city to help address food insecurity in Bartholomew County.

Officials say that more than 3,000 Bartholomew County residents have lost their SNAP benefits for at
least part of November. The SNAP program provides funds to low-income individuals and
families to purchase nutritious food. Without this support, many families will face increased hardship over the coming weeks.

Mayor Mary Ferdon said that “Ensuring that every resident has access to food is not just an act of compassion, but a responsibility we all share as neighbors and as a city that cares.”

Love Chapel is a project of the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches and has provided food, shelter and financial assistance to those in need for more than 50 years.
