Cold weather advisory in effect through Tuesday; Winter storm warning continues
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a cold weather advisory for area area. The advisory is in effect from midnight Sunday to noon on Tuesday.
* WHAT…Very low wind chills as low as 15 to 20 below zero expected.
* WHERE…Portions of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Indiana.
* WHEN…From midnight Sunday Night to noon Tuesday.
* IMPACTS…The cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
A winter storm warning also remains in effect from now until 7 a.m. Monday.
* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches. Isolated amounts up to 12 inches possible.
* WHERE…Portions of central, east central, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Indiana.
* WHEN…From noon today to 7 AM Monday.
* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.
