Columbus man sentenced to prison for attack on officer

A man is headed to prison for two and a half years after a Columbus domestic violence incident last year that included battery on a police officer.

According to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, Columbus police were called to a reported residential entry on October 3rd of last year. The encountered 31-year-old Brandon Weddle of Columbus, who tried to pull away from officers and kicked one. He was arrested on preliminary charge of battery against a public safety official and domestic battery.

Prosecutors say that he pled guilty to those charges in late February. At a sentencing hearing last week, prosecutors laid out Weddle’s criminal history which included three other battery related convictions, including two against officers. Bartholomew Circuit Court Judge Kelly Benjamin sentenced Weddle to two and a half years to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
