Columbus parents arrested after investigation into infant’s death

A five month long investigation into the death of an infant has led to the arrest of a Columbus couple on felony neglect charges.

According to the Columbus Police department, the investigation began after rescue workers were called to a home in the 1600 block of 18th Street on January 29th where parents found their child not breathing. Police took over CPR efforts until medics arrived. The 7-month old child was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

Police detectives immediately began investigating working long with the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office. The results of the investigation were referred to the prosecutor’s office for review.

The father, 54-year-old Douglas Budd was formally charged with three felony counts of neglect of a dependent and the mother 28-year-old, Suzie Budd is being charged with two felony counts of neglect of a dependent.

Warrants were issued and the two were arrested on Thursday, police announced yesterday.
