Columbus visitors center to decorate vacant windows

The visitors center in Columbus will be sprucing up the windows of a vacant building downtown, left empty after a downtown fire.

Visit Columbus will be installing dynamic vinyl window coverings featuring city-themed artwork in the former Chamber of Commerce office building at Fifth and Franklin streets, across the street from the visitor’s center.

The office building has been vacant since the fire that destroyed the neighboring Irwin Office Block building in December of 2022.

On the Fifth Street side, the coverings will feature photography by Hadley Fruits of Landmark Columbus featuring the Avenue of Architects. The Franklin Street side will feature information and surprising facts about Bartholomew County.

The upper floors will be decorated with colors and icons from the visitors center’s new brand identity as Visit Columbus.

Both sides will include QR codes that direct viewers to the Visit Columbus website for more information and a link to the site’s calendar of events.

Misty Weisensteiner, executive director of Visit Columbus, said this is “a chance to take something unfinished and turn it into something meaningful for everyone who walks, drives, or arrives here.”
