Deputies arrest two on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Two Columbus women were arrested this week on drug related charges after their van crossed the centerline, police say.

According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy stopped the van at about 10:57 p.m. Wednesday night on South Gladstone Avenue after seeing the traffic violation. A police dog alerted to the smell of narcotics inside the vehicle and a search uncovered about 40 gramps of methamphetamine. Deputies also found packaging materials, scales and drug paraphernalia.

46-year-old Melissa Elkins of Columbus was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing methamphetamine as well as for possessing methamphetamine and marijuana. 62-year-old Judy Land, also of Columbus, was arrested for possessing meth and the paraphernalia.
