Driver rescued by passerby after crash into retention pond

A Good Samaritan rescued a driver whose vehicle crashed into a retention pond at the Premium Outlet Mall in Edinburgh yesterday.

According to the Edinburgh Police Department, officers and firefighters were called to the mall after a driver lost control of their SUV and drove it into the pond. The driver escaped and climbed atop the vehicle, but couldn’t swim.

A passerby, Ronald Hoover, jumped into the water and helped rescue the driver, Adam Phillips of Edinburgh, and helped get him to safety on the side of the pond.

Edinburgh Fire Department and Fire Rescue Boat 1 helped retrieve the SUV from the water, which was ultimately pulled out by Copples Wrecker Service.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
