Edinburgh to offer new rubber duck event to spur tourism
Edinburgh Main Street will be offering a new family-friendly Rubber Duck Regatta event next month, after a grant from Festival Country Indiana.
The regatta will be held on Saturday Aug. 22nd at Irwin Park and is meant to bring visitors to enjoy the duck races on Blue River. The oversized rubber ducks will compete in a series of heats to be declared the winner of the Top Duck Trophy. Individuals, families, businesses, organizations and teams will be able to purchase, decorate and race the ducks..
The day’s activities will also include a Jeep Show, local and regional vendors, food trucks, music by a DJ, kid and yard games, and other family-friendly activities.
Crissy Riley, Vice President of Edinburgh Main Street, said the goal is for the Rubber Duck Regatta to “become a signature annual event that celebrates (the) community while supporting local businesses and encouraging tourism.”
Organizers credit Festival Country Indiana with the grant to allow the main street group to hold, promote and grow the event.
Registration is now open for duck racers, Jeep Show participants, vendors, and food trucks. You can find more information or sign up at the John R. Drybread Community Center, through the Edinburgh Main Street Facebook page, or by calling Riley at (765) 309-1163.
