Emergency officials explain accidental tornado sirens

Bartholomew County emergency officials are revealing more information about an error that caused tornado sirens to go off briefly on Wednesday.

According to Bartholomew County Emergency Management Department, 911 center dispatchers were reviewing new instructions to manually activate the sirens after a recent upgrade to the siren activation system. However, the sirens were accidentally set off.

Officials say that the inadvertent siren activation helped identify a problem either with the written instructions or the manual activation system. Efforts are now underway to identify the cause of the error and to fix the problem.
