Extreme heat in forecast with up to 108 heat indices this week
Forecasters are warning that we are in for a week of extreme heat.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a heat advisory that goes into effect at noon today and lasts through 8 Thursday evening. The high afternoon temperatures are going to be in the mid 90s, but high humidity is going to make that feel like it us up to 108, forecasters say.
There will be a real danger of heat-related illnesses if you don’t take precautions.
Those include limiting strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the afternoon. You should wear light-weight, light-colored and loose fitting clothing. And make sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
If you have to work outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
