State Roads 58 and 258 to see road work in Jackson County

You could see some traffic delays starting next week if you need to travel on State Roads 58 or 258 in Jackson County.

According to INDOT, crews will be doing chip and seal work in Jackson and Lawrence counties starting on Monday, July 6th.

On Monday, crews are scheduled to begin work on State Road 58 between State Road 446 near Heltonville and State Road 135 near Freetown. On Thursday, July 9th, the work will begin on State Road 258 between S.R. 58 near Freetown and just east of the East Fork White River near Seymour.

Work at each site is expected to last up to three days. While it is underway, you can expect lanes to be closed and flaggers directing traffic.

The work schedule is dependent on the weather.

Chip and sealing a road involves using liquid asphalt to seal cracks and waterproof the surface. Aggregate gravel is applied to the liquid asphalt and then the excess material is swept from the road. After the road cures, crews will return to seal the surface and apply pavement markings.

INDOT says that this extends the service life of the roadway and lowers maintenance costs.
