Former Greensburg police officer injured in weekend shooting

A police officer who until recently served on the Greensburg Police Department was injured over the weekend in a shooting in Evansville,

According to the Evansville Police Department, Officer Samuel Taylor was shot along with a suspect early Sunday morning. Police officers recognized a reported stolen vehicle on the street and pulled it over at a fast food restaurant, but as officers approached two suspects ran from the scene, with one pulling a gun and firing at the officers, hitting Taylor twice. Police say that one shot grazed Taylor’s head and the second struck him in the arm causing serious injuries.

Evansville police say that Taylor was still undergoing training, and it was his field training officer who returned fire, hitting the suspect. Officers quickly provided first aid to stabilize Taylor.

Both the officer and suspect were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Police said that Taylor is in stable condition but may have lost the use of his lower extremities.

The second suspect, a juvenile, initially fled the scene during the shooting was later taken into custody.

Greensburg authorities say that Taylor served with that department from 2023 to 2024. His brother, Josh Taylor, is still an active member of the Greensburg Police Department.
