Heat index to top 100 today with 90 degree temps, high humidity

Authorities say it is going to be a hot day today in our area, with the heat index reaching up to 101 in some places.

Forecasters say that you should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

If you have to be outside you should take extra precautions including lightweight and loose fitting clothing. You should try to limit strenuous activities to early morning. If you are working outdoors, safety officials recommend scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned spaces.
