Heavy rains leading to flooding in low-lying areas

Flood warnings are in effect for parts of our area after heavy rain from overnight thunderstorms is leading to runoff.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a flood warning for northeastern Bartholomew, southeastern Shelby and Decatur counties until 9 a.m. this morning. Forecasters say that flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or already occurring.

Local authorities have reported up to five inches of rain in some places. Affected communities include Greensburg, Adams, Milford, Hartsville, Millhouse, Letts, Burney and Newpoint.

Emergency officials urge you not to drive onto flooded roadways and they say most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
