Heavy rainfall leads to flooding in low-lying areas

Heavy rainfall is leading to flooding in parts of our area.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis a flood warning is in effect this morning after more than three inches of rain fell in some places. In our area the flood warning includes southeastern Bartholomew, Brown and western Jackson counties. along with parts of Morgan, Lawrence, Monroe, Daviess, Greene and Martin Counties.

Flooding is ongoing on along rivers, creeks, streams and other low lying and flood prone areas. They say that many low water crossings are inundated and may not be passable.

Emergency officials say that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. If you come across water on the roadway, you should turn around and don’t drown.

The flood warning is in effect until 10:15 a.m.
