Johnson County drug warrant sweep leads to 22+ arrests

Johnson County deputies and Franklin police have rounded up more than 20 people on a sweep of outstanding drug related warrants.

According to the sheriff’s department, the sweep began Wednesday morning as authorities rounded up people accused of selling narcotics to undercover investigators. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department had 16 warrants to serve, the Franklin Police Department had 15 and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department had nine..

22 people had been arrested as of yesterday afternoon.

Franklin Police Chief Kirby Cochran said in a released statement that through the partnership between the two departments, they “are disrupting trafficking networks, removing dangerous substances from our streets, and protecting the families and neighborhoods we serve.”

Sheriff Duane Burgess said that “Those who choose to deal drugs in Johnson County should understand that we are actively working to identify, investigate, and arrest them.”

Other agencies assisting included the Bargersville, Edinburgh and Clay City police departments, as well as the Brown and Boone county sheriff’s departments. The White River and Bargersville Fire Departments also provided medical support during the operation.
