Local NAACP remembers life and impact of Jesse Jackson

The Columbus and Bartholomew County branch of the NAACP is remembering the life of the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

The civil rights icon and two-time Democratic presidential candidate died Tuesday at the age of 84.

Bishop Johnnie Edwards, the president of the local branch, extended condolences to Jackson’s family, loved ones others touched by Jackson.

Edwards said that Jackson’s “commitment to civic engagement, voter empowerment, youth leadership and economic justice aligns deeply with the mission we continue to carry forward today. Jackson’s life reminds us that progress requires persistence, faith and collective action. “
