Man sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting at ex

A Columbus man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after a 2024 incident where he shot at his ex wife.

According to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, Brent Clayburn was sentenced last week by Circuit Court Judge Kelly Benjamin to 30 years in prison on a felony conviction for attempted murder, followed by five years of probation in the September, 2024 incident.

Police were called to a report of shots being fired at a home on Silver Fox Drive. At the time, police said there was a domestic dispute between Clayburn and his ex-wife. She ran from the home and police say that Clayburn fired shots from a handgun. She reached a neighbor’s home and called for authorities.

Police discovered multiple bullets that had hit the neighbor’s home.

Clayburn initially barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out, but surrendered about two hours after the SWAT team was called to the scene.

In April, a Bartholomew County jury found him guilty of Attempted Murder and Criminal Confinement with a Deadly Weapon.

Benjamin also sentenced him to 12 years for the criminal confinement conviction, which will run concurrently with the longer sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Bartholomew County Prosecutor Lindsey Holden, Chief Deputy Prosecutor Kim Sexton-Yeager, and Deputy Prosecutor Mat Taylor.
