Mental health intervention helps save life in North Vernon
North Vernon Police say that their intervention helped save the life of a man during a mental health crisis yesterday.
According to the department, officers were called to downtown Vernon on a report of a suicidal man. They found a man who was soaking wet and with temperatures near 20 degrees he showed signs of cold exposure. The man told officers that he had jumped into the river in an attempt to kill himself. The officers provided assistance to the man until medics could arrive and take him to the hospital for further treatment.
Chief Keith Messer said that if people are struggling, there are resources and help available. He said “No one needs to face these challenges alone.”
