More wildfire smoke creating hazardous breathing conditions today

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has extended its air quality action day alert through tonight for parts of our area.

Wildfire smoke is going to mean high levels of fine particulates in the air making it hard to breathe for some sensitive groups. The northern part of our area falls under the Orange category, which means conditions that could be unhealthy for sensitive populations such as active children and adults and for those with respiratory diseases, such as asthma. If you are at risk, you should limit prolonged exposure outdoors today.

The affected area includes Bartholomew, Brown Johnson, Shelby and Decatur counties. Jackson and Jennings counties are under a yellow or moderate air quality level.

The alert is in effect until midnight.
