New bus routes to Walesboro, Taylorsville start Monday

The new loop system for Columbus transit buses will be expanding on Monday, with new trips to Taylorsville, Edinburgh and Walesboro.

The loop system went into effect in March, the first major revamp of the ColumBUS system in decades, turning the city’s five numbered routes in the city into four color coded routes.

Starting Monday, the fifth route, called the Red Loop, will be running to the southern most parts of the city as well as the northwestern corner at Edinburgh and Taylorsville.

The Walesboro end of the loop will run at 6, 7 and 8 a.m. in the morning, then at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. in the afternoon with stops at Shadow Creek Farms, Toyota, Enkei, Sunright America, Bartholomew County REMC, NTN and Advanced Mold.

The red loop will be running to the Taylorsville and Edinburgh area at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. in the morning, and at noon and 5, 6 and 7 p.m. in the afternoon. The Taylorsville expansion will also serve Heritage Heights, Harvest Meadows, Colony Park and Edinburgh Premium Outlets

There will be more on-demands stops and pickups available in the northwestern corner of the county, but you will have to call in advance to schedule what officials are calling a deviated route.
