New fire truck ordered for Columbus volunteer department

Columbus Township firefighters will be getting a new fire truck.

According to the Columbus Township Fire and Rescue Department, the agency has ordered a new pumper tanker truck. Firefighters say that the truck is designed to carry a large amount of water and function as a pumper. Sentinel Emergency Solutions says that the truck will pump up to 1250 gallons per minute and hold a 2500 gallon booster tank. It will have a Cummins L9 engine with 450 horsepower.

The goal is to deliver water more efficiently and enhance firefighting efforts, especially in rural areas of Bartholomew County without fire hydrants.

The fire department thanked Columbus Township Trustee Kris Weisner and the township advisory board for their dedication to public safety and ensuring firefighters have the equipment they need.
